Still practiced today in its traditional form,
Traditional Thai Massage consists of a broad range of techniques including
acupressure, reflexology, facilitated yoga, assisted stretching, deep
rhythmic compressions and rocking movements.
The treatment is designed to open the
muscular-skeletal structure and restore the flow of energy along the ten
major Sen lines (meridians).
Beginning with acupressure and reflexology applied to
the feet, the full body technique works up the legs to the abdomen, back,
shoulders, arms, hands, neck, face, and head. During massage sessions,
which last from 1.5 to 2 hours, a practitioner will use hands, feet
forearms, knees and elbows to free tension concealed within the
recipient's body.
In application of this ancient massage technique, the
practitioner will massage and stretches the body in many different ways
from many different positions. Often described as applied Hatha yoga or
yoga massage, Traditional Thai Massage resembles a slow, meditative,
flowing dance with the practitioner using his or her own body as leverage
to work through approximately 130 continuous stretching movements.
Respect for each client's flexibility level is
primary, with the technique benefiting people whether they have a limited
motion range or are limber athletes. |
